Bethlehem, 21st Century
Lyrics by Randy Farran
(Tune: "O Little Town of Bethlehem", Original lyrics by Rector Pillips Brooks,
melody by Lewis Redner)
O little town of Bethlehem,
It isn't fair, 'tis true;
So many tears, down through the years
Have fallen onto you
For in thy dark streets shineth,
The harsh, reflected light
On razor wire, from rifle fire
That shatters silent nights.
O little town of Bethlehem,
How do we ask amends--
When children die, because men lie
Attaining they're selfish ends?
When comes the final audit,
How do we count the cost,
When bombs and knives can destroy lives
And innocence is lost?
O little town of Bethlehem,
How many a mother's cried--
Because men fight, convinced they're right;
That God is on their side?
And so now, ancient Bethlehem,
What does it say of man?
This place of war, since days of yore,
We've called the Holy Land.
