Oct. 26th, 2008 12:33 pmYesterday, I had to replace the sign in my yard. I have to admit that I wasn't surprised that I had to do this, in that it was a sign endorsing Obama and four years ago, I had two Kerry signs stolen out of my yard. At the bottom of the Obama sign, on both sides I had written "If you are stealing this sign, you clearly don't believe in free speech. Is this what you stand for?" I guess I should consider myself lucky; some friends of mine, immediately after putting up an Obama sign had their daughter's car vandalized--and they live in a very nice neighborhood.
Now, I have friends who are Republicans (Gaia, that sounds so cliche'), and have occasionally voted for a republican candidate myself, and I know that every group has it's extremists, and shouldn't be judged by such individuals, but I've never heard any condemnation by the the Republican party of such practices.
I don't understand what the thief thinks he/she will accomplish with his crime. Is the thought process, "Ha! His sign is gone! Now he'll -HAVE- to vote for McCain!"?. Is it "Boy, I sure showed him. I'll bet he's afraid to vote for Obama now!"?
Actually, until I hear -LOUD- condemnation of this practice of theft and censorship by the GOP, it only strengthens my resolve to never vote for a republican ever again.
