Upon hearing of the death of Arthur C. Clarke yesterday, I thought that a nice way to pay respects would be to go out and look at the stars.  Alas, it had been raining all day (Ah! Even the skies were weeping!), and it was still cloudy.

Not a star to be seen.

And then I remembered with a chill "The Nine Billion Names of God".

It's been clear and sunny today, so tonight, I will go out and check--just to make sure.

(Yeah, yeah!  I know the Sun is a star, and it certainly hadn't gone out.  I was just trying to be vaguely funny--or poetic--or something.  Don't nitpick).

Timing is everything. Good choice - I read it some time ago. My favorite was Childhood's End, but that was also a looong time ago. I went searching for some of his books, but could only find two. Sigh. Probably left a bunch with Chuck in Florida. I'll read "Sentinel", which "2001" was based on. I think re-reading some of his stuff will be a fitting memorial.
